I love to introduce you to other holistic practitioners. Whether you need someone outside my scope of practice or someone closer to your corner of the globe, it’s great to have a network of people that can care for your health.
What is a holistic practitioner?
Holistic health is about looking at the big picture, not just slapping a band-aid on every issue. A holistic practitioner takes into consideration the whole person – mind, body, spirit – when considering a person’s condition, diagnosis, and treatment. Holistic treatments aim to address the symptoms as well as the root cause of an issue whether it be neck pain, digestive upset, or an autoimmune condition. Holistic practitioners tend to guide a patient to wellness and self-healing rather than just trying to offer a quick fix for things that aren’t working.
So, I’d like to introduce you to some skilled and compassionate practitioners I know.
This week, meet Randall Neustaedter, OMD.
What do you do?
I practice and teach holistic pediatrics. This has been my passion for over 30 years. I also write books about children’s health care including The Vaccine Guide that helps parents make informed choices about vaccination, Child Health Guide to help parents raise their children from a natural, holistic perspective, and The Holistic Baby Guide that advises parents whose children have immune system challenges such as eczema, allergies, asthma, and frequent infections. I publish a regular online newsletter and parents can subscribe at my website where they will also find all past archived newsletters and a library of recorded lectures and pediatric articles, CureGuide.com.
Where do you practice?
I have a private practice in Redwood City, CA near San Francisco.
Who are your patients/clients?
Most of my patients are families who have chosen to raise their children with the principles of organic foods, attachment parenting, and natural healing methods. Many of my patients are frustrated with conventional, Western medicine. They have found drug treatments ineffective and are seeking a gentler, curative approach to health problems.

What tools do you use the most?
I use Chinese herbs designed for pediatric use, nutritional supplements, and classical homeopathy.
What sets you apart from others in your field?
I use an integrative, holistic program to solve health problems. My goal is to train many practitioners in these methods so that parents all over the country will have access to holistic care. Rather than distinguishing myself, I would rather have legions of practitioners with similar skills to provide the type of health care that children need.
What do you love about your practice?
I love seeing children become healthy, vibrant, and happy, free of symptoms and able to enjoy life.
The most common conditions you treat?
By far the most common health problems facing children today are immune system disorders. Eczema and asthma are now commonplace ailments. Fifty years ago it was extremely rare for children to have asthma. Immune system weakness leading to frequent ear infections and their complications, and colds and congestion all winter are accepted as the norm. These are the kids who need help.
Your favorite success story?
My favorite story is all those kids with multiple food sensitivities and leaky gut who are screaming with abdominal pain, and they become completely free of symptoms and able to eat any foods again following treatment.
What’s your secret to your own health and well being?
I exercise with weight training three times a week and do aerobics on other days. I eat a low carbohydrate, no grain, high protein organic diet. And I spend lots of time with my kids and our horse. I think it is essential to have a positive outlook and expect the world to work harmoniously. Often it does.

What’s your favorite health food?
Believe it or not, my favorite health food is my daily morning protein shake with milk, fruit, whey protein concentrate, and cinnamon.
We all have one – what’s your guilty pleasure?
I love reading novels and watching quality TV dramas. I’m surprised by how much good TV there actually is, and I love to be entertained.
Thanks, Randall!
Want to be a featured Holistic Kid practitioner?
Please email me at emily AT holistickid dot com with the answers to the above questions (at the very top of the post), and a minimum of five photos (more is better). Note: Please send me LARGE photos. Minimum 610 width. If they’re too small, I can’t use them. As much as I’d love to include all the photos I receive, I can’t guarantee that I will use your photos in the series. I’m looking for creative, good quality photos.
Some ideas for photos:
- At least one photo of yourself, ideally in your office, possibly working with a patient, candid preferred – we want to see the real you, not the press-release version of you!
- Show us your office – your treatment room, reception area, the car you drive to your house calls if your practice is mobile, or any interesting features inside or out of the place you work.
- A photo of your favorite tools of trade.
- Show us your personal side – hobby, sport, favorite place, or something that makes you human.
And no, you don’t have be local to Los Angeles to be included – we’d love to meet Holistic practitioners around the globe!
