Meet Your Holistic Practitioner – Arash Jacob, D.O.

September 8, 2011

Dr. Jacob, D.O.

I would love for you to be my patient, but sometimes, you may need to see someone else other than me. Whether your condition is out of my scope of practice, or I just think a different approach or practitioner will be a better fit or complimentary to what we’re doing, I often refer patients to other great practitioners – big bonus if that practitioner is holistic-minded.

I like to think of good practitioners as an extension of my own tool box. When I need more support (either personally or professionally), I reach into my kit and find the right modality and practitioner to fit my needs. I encourage you to to the same.

What is a holistic practitioner?

Holistic health is about looking at the big picture, not just slapping a bandaid on every issue. A holistic practitioner takes into consideration the whole person – mind, body, spirit – when considering a person’s condition, diagnosis, and treatment. Holistic treatments aim to address the symptoms as well as the root cause of an issue whether it be neck pain, digestive upset, or an autoimmune condition. Holistic practitioners tend to guide a patient to wellness and self-healing rather than just trying to offer a quick fix for things that aren’t working.

So, I’d like to introduce you to some skilled and compassionate practitioners I know.

This week, meet Dr. Arash Jacob, D.O.

Dr. Jacob is a cranial osteopath.  Cranial osteopaths go to regular medical school, but then do advanced training in understanding and balancing the rhythms and patterns in a human body and helping to release stored traumas.  I was referred to Dr. Jacob personally to help correct my underbite and cross-bite.  I was amazed to see and feel my jaw and facial bones actually start to shift within a couple of sessions.  Dr Jacob works with babies to address birth traumas and adults with chronic pain, but really, “cranial osteopathy can treat nearly every ailment that plagues a body.”

Working with a newborn.

What You Do?

I work the multiple levels of healing that we operate on, namely the physical, emotional, memory imprints, and often times the levels that fall under the “other” category. I am a physician by license, a healer by nature, and a kid at heart. I use my hands as means to contact the body and get my information. I also use my hand to make small and often non-detectable adjustments. Many patients report feeling “ultra-relaxed” during the sessions and also report being slightly “off” for one to two days afterward, as the body internally adjusts itself.

Where’s Your Office?

420 S. Beverly Dr., Suite 202, Beverly Hills, CA 90212 on Beverly Drive, just south of Olympic Blvd.

Who Are Your Patients?

I treat all ages: newborns to elderly.

What Tools do you use the most?

My hands, and other tidbits as needed.

Cranial Osteopathy during Pregnancy.

The fact that I use my hands to quest into the body and receive information. Also, that I use the body’s intention to further its healing without imposing my own agenda onto it.

What do you love about your practice?

When love grows between a patient and I.

Common conditions you treat:

Ear infections in the young, torticollis, birth trauma, suckling problems, irritability from hard/difficult labors; old traumas, herniated disks, trauma’s that “won’t heal,” etc..

Favorite success story:

A lady who went from being depressed (which she had been for years) to glowingly cheerful with a face full of tears during a treatment. She had, years before, fallen off of a sandy cliff, onto her head and soon thereafter became depressed “for no apparent reason.”

What’s your favorite health food?

At the moment, it’s Spirulina.

We all have one – what’s your guilty pleasure?

Usually, it’s a dessert my wife makes. Her chocolate torte is tough to beat.

Thanks, Dr. Jacob!

Want to be a featured Holistic Kid practitioner?

Please email me at emily AT holistickid dot com with the answers to the above questions (at the very top of the post), and a minimum of five photos (more is better).

Note: Please send me LARGE photos. Minimum 610 width. If they’re too small, I can’t use them. As much as I’d love to include all the photos I receive, I can’t guarantee that I will use your photos in the series. I’m looking for creative, good quality photos.

Some ideas for photos:

At least one photo of yourself, ideally in your office, possibly working with a patient, candid preferred – we want to see the real you, not the press-release version of you!

Show us your office – your treatment room, reception area, the car you drive to your house calls if your practice is mobile, or any interesting features inside or out of the place you work.

A photo of your favorite tools of trade.

Show us your personal side – hobby, sport, favorite place, or something that makes you human.

And no, you don’t have be local to Los Angeles to be included – we’d love to meet Holistic Kid practitioners around the globe!
